AEGON's most valuable asset is the people it employs. At the end of 2006, the Group had a total of nearly 29,000 employees, most in the Americas, the Netherlands and the United Kingdom. All AEGON companies have policies that ensure non-discrimination in their workforces and these policies are actively enforced.
AEGON believes there is a direct correlation between the satisfaction of its employees and the quality of the products and services the Groupe is able to offer. AEGON has introduced a number of measures designed to improve employee satisfaction levels, including recognition programs, better internal communication and a variety of health and safety training schemes.
AEGON also has a corporate environmental policy, which stresses the importance of respecting the environment, conserving energy and eliminating waste. In 2007, as part of its efforts to help conserve vital resources, AEGON will examine the possibility of a new, globally coordinated action plan, designed to reduce the company's overall consumption of energy.
More detailed figures on AEGON's consumption of raw materials such as water, paper and energy can be found in the 2006 Corporate Responsibility Report, available on this website.
