General Meeting of Shareholders

The main function of the General Meeting of Shareholders is to decide matters such as the adoption of annual accounts, the approval of dividend payments and appointments to AEGON’s Executive and Supervisory Boards.

Our shareholders

Approximately 86% of AEGON’s common shares are held by institutional investors. These investors include Vereniging AEGON, the company's single largest shareholder, with 22.9% of AEGON's outstanding shares.
 

Vereniging AEGON

Vereniging AEGON controls 33.77% of AEGON’s voting capital, comprising both common shares and preferred shares. These preferred shares carry additional voting rights. However, Vereniging AEGON has agreed voluntarily not to exercise these additional rights, except under certain circumstances. Further details are set out in the Preferred Shares Voting Rights Agreement (see related documents on the right). Vereniging AEGON owns all of AEGON’s preferred shares.
