AEGON was formed in 1983 – the result of a merger between two Dutch insurers, AGO and Ennia.
But the company can trace its roots back much further – to the middle of the nineteenth century when its predecessors provided burial funds to customers in the Netherlands.
Today, AEGON is an international business, providing life insurance, pensions and other long-term savings and investment products to millions of customers around the world. The company has major operations in the United States, the Netherlands and the United Kingdom as well as other businesses in Asia, the Americas and elsewhere in Europe. AEGON is listed on the stock exchanges of Amsterdam, London, New York and Tokyo.
With just over EUR 330 billion in revenue-generating investments at the end of 2008, AEGON companies employ approximately 29,000 people worldwide, serving more than 40 million policyholders in over twenty countries across the globe.
Creating better futures for all stakeholders
As a global company, AEGON believes it makes a valuable contribution to the communities in which the company operates – not only as a provider of long-term financial products, but also as a responsible employer and investor.
