The audit committee's main task is to assist the Supervisory Board in monitoring the integrity of the financial statements of AEGON N.V., the independent auditor's qualification and independence, the performance of AEGON's internal audit function and the independent auditor, the compliance by AEGON with legal and regulatory requirements and AEGON's finances and the company's finance related strategies.

In order to fulfill these tasks the committee, together with the independent auditor, discusses in more detail the accounting principles, the financial reports and the internal control structure.

The committee presently consists of Shemaya Levy (chairman), Irving W. Bailey, II, Antony Burgmans and W.F.C. Stevens.
