In recent years, AEGON has built up significant operations in new markets. Many of these are in Central & Eastern Europe and Asia, although AEGON has also been expanding its business within Western Europe.
AEGON’s first business in Asia opened in Taiwan in 1993. Since then, the company has expanded across the region. Today, AEGON has operations in Hong Kong, China, India, Japan, Australia, Thailand and Singapore.
AEGON also offers life insurance and pension products to millions of customers in six countries across Central & Eastern Europe. In Spain, AEGON is one of the largest providers of life insurance, and in France, AEGON has had a partnership with pension and life insurance company AG2R LA MONDIALE since 2002.

Locations and business lines
- Central & Eastern Europe: life insurance, individual and group pension products, savings and investments, as well as general insurance.
- Asia: life insurance in China and India and variable annuities in Japan.
- Spain: life insurance and investments.
- France: partnership with French insurer and pension specialist AG2R LA MONDIALE.
- Ireland: variable annuities offered by Variable Annuities Europe (AEGON Ireland).
AEGON employs nearly 8,500 people throughout its New Markets. In 2011, AEGON's underlying earnings before tax for New Markets amounted to EUR 212 million.
