When was AEGON formed?
AEGON N.V. is the holding company of one of the world's largest life insurance and pension companies, and a strong provider of investment products. It is the result of a merger between two insurance companies AGO and Ennia that took place in 1983.

What is AEGON’s dividend policy?

AEGON recognizes the importance of offering its shareholders a stable and adequate dividend, supported by the company's cash flow and capital position. The total dividend for the full year consists of an interim dividend, which is declared at the same date as AEGON publishes its second quarter results in August, and a final dividend proposed when the company releases its full year results in March and then submitted for approval at the Annual General Meeting of Shareholders.

Who are AEGON’s major shareholders?

Vereniging AEGON. The purpose of Vereniging AEGON is the balanced representation of the interests of AEGON N.V. and its group companies, as well those of insured parties, employees, shareholders and other relations of those companies. In other words, to promote the interests of AEGON N.V. and all its stakeholders. At December 31, 2006, Vereniging AEGON, held approximately 11% of the company's total outstanding common shares and all of the preferred shares. Based on publicly available information, there are no other major shareholders exceeding 5% participation.

In 2006, 85% of AEGON’s operating earnings before tax was generated by its life insurance and pension business. Accident and health insurance accounted for a further 12%, general insurance for 2% and banking 1%. By region, 71% of AEGON’s operating earnings before tax came from our operations in the Americas, 21% from the Netherlands and 7% from the United Kingdom. The remaining 1% came from our businesses in Other countries.
