Aegon works closely with a number of sustainability rating agencies, who regularly assess our performance. We have also received a number of independent awards for our performance in various aspects of sustainability.

Robeco Sam 2017 Sustainability Award for Aegon

In 2016, with a slight decrease of one point, Aegon scored 82 compared to an industry average of 50. With this score, Aegon outperformed 90% of the companies in our sector.

We retained our place in the Dow Jones Sustainability World Index for the 16th consecutive year, as well as in the European Index.

Aegon maintained its Bronze Class distinction in the 2017 RobecoSAM Sustainability Awards (based on our 2016 results).

FTSE4Good Logo Aegon has been included in the FTSE4Good Global Index since 2001. The FTSE4Good Index Series recognizes the performance of companies demonstrating strong Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) practices. Aegon scores 3.8 on scale of 0-5. This puts us in the top 5% of companies.
Asset Owners Disclosure Project Logo The Asset Owners Disclosure Project (AODP) is an independent global not-for-profit organization that recognizes the specific financial risk attributes of climate change. In 2017, AODP included asset managers in their Global Climate Index for the first time. Aegon Asset Management was ranked 12th out of the world's 50 largest asset managers. The ranking is based on three key capabilities: Governance & Strategy, Portfolio Carbon Risk Management and Metrics & Targets.
Logo Oekom Okoem Research is one of the world's leading rating agencies. In 2016, Oekom rated Aegon with an overall grade of C. This gives us 'Prime' status, and puts us amongst the top 10% for ESG performance in our industry.

The Euronext-Vigeo indices include companies with the most advanced performance in corporate responsibility, including environmental and social issues and corporate governance.

Based on Vigeo's 2016 assessment, Aegon maintains its membership of the following Indices: Eurozone 120 (the 120 most advanced companies in the Eurozone region), Europe 120 (the 120 most advanced companies in Europe) and Benelux 20 (the 20 most advanced companies in the Benelux region).

MSCI ESG Ranking Logo We have maintained our 'AA' rating for the last five years with US-based MSCI, a provider of equity, fixed income and hedge fund stock market indexes. Globally, MSCI rank Aegon 6th (up from 8th last year) in the Life and Health Insurance sector, with a responsible investment score of 9.5 out of  a maximum possible 10 points.
Sustainalytics In 2016, global responsible investment research firm Sustainalytics gave Aegon 74 points out of 100. This was an improvement of our previous scores, and qualifies us for an outperformer rating.
CDP Every year, we provide data on our environmental performance to CDP. For our 2016 input, we're graded with a C by CDP. We no longer receive a disclosure score (while in previous year we did), as the new methodology used by CDP integrates this score in the overall rating.

VDBO Logo

The Dutch Association of Investors for Sustainable Development (VBDO) publishes a Tax Transparency Benchmark that focuses specifically on corporate disclosure of tax procedures and practices.

In the VBDO's 2017 Sustainability Performance of Dutch Stock Listed Companies, Aegon was a leader in the financial sector for identifying areas of support for the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The next step is to set relevant, measurable targets for realizing the SDGs.

 Cover of VBDO 2016 Tax Transparency Benchmark Report The VBDO's Tax Transparency Benchmark focuses specifically on corporate disclosure around tax procedures and practices. In 2016, Aegon was the highest ranking financial services company in the VBDO's Tax Transparency Benchmark, and ranked 5th among all listed companies in The Netherlands.
 Dutch Ministery of Affairs logo The Dutch Transparency Benchmark is carried out by the Dutch Ministry of Economic Affairs. In 2015, with a score of 185, we were ranked first in our sector, and 12th in the Netherlands as a whole. In 2016, while our absolute score increased to 186 points, we dropped slightly in the ranking to the 21st place. Aegon still maintains its position in the Leaders category of the Benchmark.
