2010 Sustainability Report

April 14, 2011

Complementing our recent 2010 Annual Report, Aegon has published the 2010 Sustainability Report.

Titled "Sustainability 2010 – Report to Stakeholders," the report presents a number of measures of our performance over the past year: those relating to our customers, our employees, our environmental impact and a number of other factors that the Annual Report does not cover.

The report includes the following highlights:

  • Customers:
Last year, Aegon reduced customer complaints by nearly 18%.
  • Employees:
Aegon has initiated a new talent and performance management program. We are developing an Aegon-wide employee engagement survey, which will take place during for the second half of this year.
  • Investments:
Aegon has recently signed up to the United Nations Principles for Responsible Investment. At the same time, our Socially Responsible Investment funds topped EUR 1.2 billion. These funds screen companies for their impact on the environment and on society as a whole.
  • Donations:
Aegon has introduced a new corporate donations policy that will apply to all our operations worldwide. Last year, our donations totaled EUR 6.6 million.
  • Environment:
Aegon has introduced new technology to reduce the number of servers we need, cutting costs and CO2 emissions. So far, we’ve saved the equivalent of just over 7,000 metric tons of carbon dioxide – enough in Europe to run approximately 2,730 cars for a year.
