Employees giving back on Volunteer Day

The Hague, Netherlands, April 17, 2015

In April of 2015, 345 Aegon employees rolled up their sleeves in order to give back to the Dutch Community. Here’s a short summary of all the different activities they participated in.

Aegon Gives Back

VolunteerDayOn April 17th many Aegon employees left the office to serve as volunteers on 'Volunteer Day'. In March employees could learn about many different charities at the "charity market" in the Hague. From there they could choose a charity to support on the volunteer day.

Heidi Gosens from "De Wissel" animal shelter said, "Without the help of the volunteers we would have had to close our doors". Some Aegon colleagues visited the animal shelter and helped with cleaning and sprucing up the place.

Other colleagues took to the Scheveningen Beach in The Hague to test out which restaurants or bars were accessible for people in wheelchairs. Another group of volunteers visited a care center for the elderly to engage in activities such as giving them manicures and decorating cupcakes. Similarly, some volunteers spent a day with elders that can no longer fend for themselves; they needed help buying clothes or Skyping their grandchildren, for example. Employees even got their hands dirty by helping to build paths and play areas for children at a local park.
