Are you on track for a comfortable retirement?

The Hague, June 11, 2015

Aegon has launched the Retireometer – a simple and fun digital tool that lets you know if you’re on track for a comfortable retirement in just a few seconds.

RetireOMeter Retirement Calculator on Smarphone

Most of us are curious about how well-off we'll be in retirement, but until now, the only way to find out was to use a complex calculator or visit a financial advisor. The result? Far too many people putting it off for another day.

The Retire-O-Meter doesn't provide you with a retirement income accurate to the nearest euro, but it does give you a rough estimate. You'll probably know most of the information required off by heart, so you're more likely to complete it. (In the Netherlands the information can be found at www.mijnpensioenoverzicht.nl if necessary)

To keep it simple, a few things aren't included, such as state pension - trying to predict the value of this 20 or 30 years from now is extremely difficult - and certainly not guaranteed.

What happens when you delay retirement a year?

What's really interesting about the Retireometer, is that in the 'Play' mode it enables you to see the significant effect that starting saving at a younger age, retiring later, or getting a better return on your money can have on your retirement income. Or alarmingly, what little effect additional monthly saving has if you're already close to retirement!

Throughout the game, a number of interesting facts from the 2015 Aegon Retirement Readiness Survey allow you to check how your financial situation compares with other people in your country – such as how long you expect to live after retiring.

Try the game yourself at www.Retireometer.com.
