On January 13, 2016, Aegon announced and commenced its EUR 400 million share buyback program.
The first tranche of EUR 200 million was completed on March 31, 2016. During this period, Aegon repurchased 41.1 million shares at an average repurchase price of EUR 4.87 per share.
Today, Aegon is announcing the start of the second tranche of EUR 200 million, which will be completed by May 31, 2016. To repurchase shares in the open market, Aegon engaged a third party to transact on its behalf. The common shares will be repurchased at a maximum of the daily volume-weighted average price.
It will be proposed to shareholders at Aegon's Annual General Meeting on May 20, 2016, to cancel all shares repurchased under the share buyback program. Weekly updates regarding the transactions are available here.
