The Aegon Transamerica Foundation is donating USD 100,000 to the American Red Cross to support the relief effort on the Hawaiin island of Maui.
Fueled by a combination of strong winds and drought conditions, wildfires have devastated Maui. There have been over 100 confirmed fatalities and more than 2,000 structures destroyed or damaged across several island communities. It is the largest natural disaster in the state’s history and the deadliest in modern US history. Around 850 people are still missing.
Transamerica and World Financial Group (WFG) have deep business and historical ties to Hawaii. WFG has nearly 500 licensed agents, some of whom were directly, and catastrophically, affected by the wildfires. Transamerica has more than 35,000 insurance customers and over 59,000 retirement plan participants who reside in Hawaii.
The Aegon Transamerica Foundation will also match eligible employee donations on a dollar-for-dollar basis through September 15.
In addition to this, the WFG Foundation will match up to $250,000 in personal contributions from WFG agents. These combined contributions will directly support the Red Cross in helping to shelter, feed, and provide care to families as they work to recover and rebuild.
